Restoration of a very weathered arched door.

This lovely arched entry door had been battered by the elements for more than 100 years. Fortunately, someone before me had made repairs to stabilize it but it wasn’t fixed properly.

The homeowner wanted a full restoration.

Before

After

The door was removed and the opening sealed for security and insulated against the cold.

Each blue dot indicates a screw where the previous workman secured the veneer in place.

The damaged veneer was removed. Foam was added to the stave core cavities to facilitate using a vacuum press to glue the new veneer in place.

New tongue and groove veneer panels were milled from red oak to match the existing pieces.

Lastly, all of the hardware was stripped and powder coated to resemble aged, hammered bronze.
